Lydia C. Sokol, 89

Lydia C. Sokol, 89, has joined her husband in the arms of their maker.

She is survived by five children, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She also has many nieces and nephews who live in the eastern United States.

Lydia was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She met her husband of 68 years after graduating from high school and after his return from serving during World War II. They moved across the country and settled in Colorado until 1975, when they moved to the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, area.

Lydia enjoyed reading, quilt making and canning fruit and vegetables from her garden.

Later in life she developed an interest in space flight and the wonders of the universe. She watched all the launches for the SpaceX program. She also enjoyed a trip to central Idaho to view the total eclipse.

At her request, her cremated remains will be scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy. There will be a private memorial service to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of North Idaho.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Lydia’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
