NOTICE FOR COMMENT USDA - Forest Service, Northern Region Idaho Panhandle National Forests Bonners Ferry Ranger District Boundary County, Idaho Camp Robin Project - Environmental Assessment The Idaho Panhandle National Forests is proposing to conduct a variety of natural resource management activities on National Forest System lands in the Bonners Ferry Ranger District. The project area is about 42,000 acres and is located in the Camp Nine and Robinson Lake areas north and east of Bonners Ferry. The proposed activities are located on Federal lands within all or portions of: T65N, R1E, Sections 25, 26, 33-36; T65N, R2E, Sections 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 20-22, 26-31, 34, 35; T64N, R1E, Sections 3, 4, 8, 17, 20, 21, 28, 29, 32, 33; T63N, R1E, Sections 1,3,4,10,14, 15, 23-26, 36; T63N, R2E, Sections 17-20, 29-33, Boise Meridian. The proposed action for the Camp Robin project includes approximately 390 acres of prescribed burning and about 5,805 acres of commercial vegetation management on National Forest System lands. Proposed vegetation treat- ments include about 90 acres of pre-commercial thinning, 2,630 acres of intermediate harvest prescriptions and 3,175 acres of regeneration prescriptions. To reduce the risk of fire, a combination of prescribed burning or mastication or machine piling would be used to treat fuels, especially along private land boundaries. Actions to improve wildlife habitat, aquatic resources, roads and recreational opportunities are also proposed with details listed in the environmental assessment (EA) for this project. Road treatments to reduce sediment and provide for safe public travel include maintaining and improving about 54 miles of roads and reconstructing about 10 miles of roads. Approximately 13 miles of temporary roads would be constructed to provide access to treatment locations and they would be rehabilitated following the completion of project-related activities.
