VOTING: The ideal candidate

| July 15, 2018 1:00 AM

In Sunday’s Press of July 7, there were two letters on President Trump. One stated “Resist Trump.” I agree 100 percent. Also add on the tax cut. Dale Hedman of Hayden should have added on the millions — millionaires and billionaires. This tax cut will now make a multi-billionaire out of Trump. Dale added cuts for middle class. I disagree with that.

I’m middle class, retired, and in checking with a tax preparer, I most likely will not have any cuts. Possible increase in taxes. My wife and I pay $449 a month for health coverage (Medicare) plus supplement. I used to prepare my own tax return, but with so many details such as on Social Security, K-1 on my wife’s stock of partnership and other items, I have to have a specialist do it to the extent of $500. While some corporations gave employees a bonus, numerous, and I do mean numerous corporations used their tax cuts to buy back their stock. That sure helped the economy.

Robert O. Martin’s statement that he and other veterans are going to vote for Trump in the 2020 election: I am a four-year Korean veteran. I will give him one more vote: Impeachment.

I started voting 55 years ago. Almost exclusively Republican. Then the Republican Party helped both me and corporations as much as possible that I worked for and corporations supported me. Health insurance, good pay and other benefits. That seems to have gone by the wayside. Unless you’re a millionaire or billionaire, the party no longer takes you into their fold.

I don’t want to start voting for the Democrats either. They are only slightly for the middle class. Mostly for the non-workers, food stamp, welfare people at the expense of the middle class.

If an Independent with the ideals of our forefathers runs, he will get my vote.

I agree with the letter written by Gilbert Beyer of Sandpoint. We need another Reagan-type person. Even Nixon. Until then, I just won’t vote.
