WESTFIELD, Ind. — In what amounted to a dress rehearsal for today’s championship game, the Sting Timbers 00/01 girls soccer team defeated Green White SC of Illinois 1-0 on Saturday morning to complete group play at the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup at Grand Park Sports Complex.

The two teams will meet again today at 4:30 a.m. PDT in the girls 18-and-under championship game of the national tournament.

On Saturday, Megan Drake scored the game’s only goal, on an assist from Bridget Rieken. Drake, a Coeur d’Alene High grad who has signed with Eastern Washington, leads the 18U girls division in goals with three.

The Sting Timbers went 3-0 and won the four-team group with 9 points. Green White (1-1-1) finished second with four points, followed by Vereinigung Erzgebirge United (0-1-2) of Pennsylvania with two points, and CUFC Gold (0-2-1) of North Carolina with one point.

VE United played the CUFC Gold to a 3-all tie on Saturday; they’ll meet again this morning in the third-place game.
