ANNIVERSARY
John and Marilyn Fisher
50th Anniversary
John and Marilyn Fisher met in April 1968 at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif. They both were serving as Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. John had just returned from 13 months in Vietnam with the Marines. They were married in July 1968 in Rathdrum.
They continued their Navy careers until moving to Coeur d’Alene in November 1969. John was a fireman for the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department from 1969 to 1974, changing his career to Farm Bureau Insurance, Twin Rivers Insurance and Regence Blue Shield for Idaho for 35 years. John retired in 2010 as the Marketing Executive for individual sales at Regence Blue Shield of Idaho. Marilyn continued her nursing career with training from North Idaho College, Lewis State College and University of Phoenix. Marilyn worked as an RN in many hospitals (civilian and military) throughout her career in the specialties of Neonatal Intensive Care, OB/GYN and Labor and Delivery, and lastly as the director of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Marilyn continued her military career and retired from active duty in 2007 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Nurse Corps having served on active duty during four wars (Vietnam, Desert Shield, Enduring Freedom and the Iraq War). Marilyn continues to teach in the Certified Nursing Assistant Program for North Idaho College at the Workforce Training Center.
Marilyn and John built their home on property of the original Meyer Farm from 1902 in Rathdrum — where her parents, Norman and Doris Meyer, still live. Marilyn and John have two children, Tanya (Fisher) Faley (John) and David Fisher (Keri); five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
John and Marilyn are snowbirds and spend winter months in their desert home in California. They will enjoy a 50th anniversary cruise through the Panama Canal later this year. A private family/friend dinner is planned for Saturday, July 21, 2018, at their home on the Rathdrum Prairie. Additionally, an open house for all friends and family will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene.
EDUCATION
Students from the following North Idaho hometowns were among the 1,561 Montana State University undergraduates who received diplomas during MSU’s 2018 spring commencement ceremony held May 5 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Students with two asterisks after their name (**) graduated with highest honors. To graduate with highest honors, undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.70. Undergraduate students graduating with honors have a single asterisk (*) after their name. To qualify for graduation with honors, students must possess a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 to 3.69.
