Gene Paul Carpenter, 85

Gene Paul Carpenter passed away at the age of 85 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on July 5, 2018. Cause of death was heart disease with complications from Primary Progressive Aphasia. He was born in Fergus Falls, Minn., on July 27, 1932, to Agnes and Garry Carpenter.

Gene is survived by his son, Michael and his wife; his daughter, Susan and her husband and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, in 2017 and his brother, Larry, in 2017.

During his life, he earned a BS in entomology at Oklahoma State University and his MS and PHD in entomology from Oregon State University. He participated in ROTC while earning his BS, actively serving in the U.S. Army from May 1955 to May 1957 with the 330th Regiment.

During his free time he enjoyed reading, fishing, photography and playing card and board games with his family. During his career with the University of Idaho, he was known for wearing western shirts with insects on them. After his retirement, he and Joyce went on numerous trips in their RV, visiting family and favorite places. His ashes will be spread privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to Hospice of North Idaho.
