Post Falls Festival begins 3-day run Friday

POST FALLS — Whether you want to rock out to the music at Q'emiln Park or rock on at the parade, the Post Falls Festival has something to offer folks of all ages Friday through Sunday.
"This will be a great chance to come out and enjoy the great weather with some great people," said Police Chief Pat Knight, who is helping organize the parade.
Friday's schedule at the park includes music from noon to 9 p.m.; food and craft vendors 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Big Wheel race 6:30 p.m.; and the movie "Cars 3" at 9 p.m. An art show will be held at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center from 4 to 8 p.m.
The lawnmower races, originally planned for Friday night on Fifth Avenue as a free event, have been canceled this year due to an increase in logistical costs to present. The races will be re-evaluated by the sponsor Post Falls Lions Club in 2019.
Saturday's lineup includes: breakfast at the Senior Center from 7 to 9:30 a.m.; parade on Seltice Way at 10 a.m.; car show at City Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; art show at the JACC from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; food and craft vendors from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; music from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and homemade crafts at the park's Grand Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Post Falls Parks and Recreation Department organized the activities in the park.
"Be sure to stop by the Post Falls Parks and Recreation information booth (by the ATM machine) and win lots of fun prizes," said Traci Stevenson, of the department. "All weekend long bounce houses will be available."
Sunday's offerings include a worship service at 10 a.m. and music, food and craft vendors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park.
Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Chief Warren Merritt, another parade organizer, said the parade will feature more than 60 entries. It will run from Frederick to Idaho on Seltice Way. The parade will be announced at Community 1st Bank, which is sponsoring the event with Ground Force and Coldwell Banker/Schneidmiller Realty.
"The parade is only one of the few where throwing candy to the onlookers is still OK," he said. "It is an opportunity to remember the good old days and see what the community has to offer and to celebrate our local service members and veterans, emergency responders, churches, private business and nonprofits."
There will be a free shuttle to the park from City Hall after the parade around noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
