Cecil Bruce Whiteshield, 76
Cecil Bruce Whiteshield, age 76, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at the Tekoa Care Center from age related causes. He had been a resident at the care center for the past seven months.
Cecil Bruce Whiteshield was born Aug. 24, 1941, in Clinton, Okla., to Henry and Blanche (Hart) Whiteshield. He attended schools in Hammon, Okla., where he graduated from high school. Following his schooling, Cecil enlisted in the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Cecil worked as a self-employed carpenter and bricklayer in Southern California, working in the Long Beach and Riverside areas for many years. For the past 10 years, he made his home in the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, area, where he lived with his son.
He was a member of the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribe in Oklahoma, and an Army Veteran. Cecil loved doing craft work and was known for his carved Indian dolls and brush shields. He enjoyed nature and loved the outdoors. Cecil was a man who made many close friendships and cherished them. He would also help those that were in need. He was never married.
Survivors include his son, William Whiteshield Sr. of Coeur d’Alene, and two grandchildren, William and Ashlie, of Alaska. Also surviving are three sisters, Marcie Cardwell and Pearl Winburn, both of Oklahoma, and Rita Winesberry of California; and the children of Helen M. Nelson, whom he loved as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mark Whiteshield; and his beloved friend, Helen M. Nelson.
At his request, no public service will be held.
