Northwest Premier reaches semifinals of wood-bat tourney

Northwest Premier won the Thorco Field pool of the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene wood bat classic on Saturday afternoon, finishing with a 5-0 record in pool play.

Northwest Premier beat Calgary Blues 8-4 and Sherwood Park (Alberta) 14-4 to advance to a semifinal game today against the Spokane Expos 18U today at Al K. Jackson Field in Spokane at 11:30 a.m.

The host Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen went 0-2, concluding tournament play with a 5-1 loss to the Spokane Crew (Black) at Thorco Field. The Lums went 1-4 in the tourney

Jack Bloom had two hits and a run scored in the fourth inning for Coeur d’Alene (5-4), which returns to North Idaho League play on Friday, hosting Prairie in a doubleheader at Thorco Field starting at 5 p.m.

Earlier, Carter Friesz doubled for the Lumbermen in a 9-0 loss to Sherwood Park at Thorco Field.

At Post Falls High, Harrison Reid and Matt Fleming had two hits and three RBIs each as the Prairie Cardinals beat Edmonton 11-2 to conclude tournament play. The Cardinals finished 2-3 in the tourney.

Tanner McCliment-Call had two RBIs and two runs scored for Prairie (7-21), which hosts Lewis-Clark in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Post Falls High starting at 3 p.m.

Louis Powell drove in three runs and Braden Gifford and Dustin Smith homered for Northern Lakes in a 10-8 loss to the Spokane Northstars at Post Falls High.

Northern Lakes, which finished 2-2-1 in the tourney, is 13-6-1.

At Jackson Field, the North Idaho Black Sox beat the Medicine Hat Seminoles 10-2 before falling to Bellingham Post No. 7 7-6 to finish 3-2 in the tournament.
