Northern Lakes wins 2 at wood-bat tourney
The Northern Lakes Mountaineers edged Hodgen Distributing 4-3 and beat the Prairie Cardinals 8-4 on Friday at Post Falls High to improve to 2-1-1 at the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat classic.
Against Hodgen, Northern Lakes scored all four of its runs in the top of the seventh inning. Jaret Taylor and Brandon Gay had RBI singles for the Mountaineers in the inning.
Against Prairie, Colton Aragon went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, including a two-run single in the fifth for Northern Lakes. Dustin Smith was 3 for 4 with an RBI triple in the third. Ezra Grigg struck out five in 6 2/3 innings, and also had an RBI single in the second, and Jack McDonald went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Later Friday, Prairie mustered two hits and lost 18-0 to the Spokane Expos 19U squad. Prairie (6-21) fell to 1-3 in tourney play. Kyle Manzardo, a recent Lake City High grad, went 3 for 4 with five RBIs and two runs scored for the Expos. Kodie Kolden, another former Timberwolf, went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Northern Lakes plays the Spokane Northstars today at 3:30 p.m. at Post Falls High.
At Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene, Sedro Woolley scored four runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 10-6.
Michael Dooley drove in a pair of runs for Coeur d’Alene, and scored on Seth Hanson’s single to tie the game at 6 in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lums (5-2), 1-2 in tourney play, are scheduled to play Sherwood Park today at 3:30 p.m. and the Spokane Crew Black at 6, both at Thorco Field.
Also at Thorco Field, Northwest Premier beat Sedro Woolley 15-4 to improve to 3-0 in tourney play.
At Al K. Jackson Field in Spokane, the North Idaho Black Sox defeated Juanita, British Columbia, 10-0 to improve to 2-1 in tourney play. The Black Sox play the Medicine Hat Seminoles today at 10:30 a.m. at Jackson Field, and Bellingham Post 7 at 1 p.m.
