LABOR: Cheap vs. free

On June 29, Mike Reno wrote a letter to the editor about immigration. I am not sure I understood his point but one thing he said stands out. He said the main reason “we have” African-Americans is because farming and construction have relied on cheaper immigrants. He might want to revise that comment. There was this thing called slavery. Their labor was not cheap, it was free, and most Africans did not emigrate by choice.
