Marvin Ray Green, 88

Marvin Ray Green, age 88, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018, at Lacrosse Health and Rehab Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, surrounded by family.

Marvin was born in Menan, Idaho on the 24th of March, 1930. He was the fourth of eleven children; eight girls and three boys. He spent his formative years working on his family’s farm and attending school. He played sports all his life. He was on the softball team all four years, played varsity football for two years and varsity basketball for one year. He also narrowly missed being valedictorian and was senior class president. After graduating in 1948, he joined the Air Force and went to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He served in Japan and the Philippines during the Korean conflict.

He met Juanita Weber, married her in 1963, and had four children. He worked at the INL site and with a few interruptions retired in 1992. Since retiring he has spent his time golfing, going to the temple and serving others.

Around his 78th birthday he moved to North Idaho to live with his son, Jason and his family in Post Falls.

Marvin was diagnosed with skin cancer near the end of 2017, and underwent treatment with very few side effects. He was healthy enough to go on one last vacation to see his sisters in Utah and Idaho at the end of May. When he got back he started radiation, and within a few weeks, peacefully and with no pain, he passed away with his family present.

Marvin was preceded in death by his three children, mother, father and two brothers. He is survived by all eight of his sisters; his former wife, Juanita Loyear; his son, Jason; daughter-in-law, Misty; four grandchildren, Kade (24), Harrison (22), Drake (20, and currently serving an LDS mission in the Philippines) and Miranda (18); and Ninja, the dog he would never admit he loved (10).

There will be a viewing from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Bell Tower Funeral Home in Post Falls. He will be buried in Menan, Idaho, on July 6, 2018 after a short graveside service beginning at 2 p.m.

Marvin Green was a kind, good man, and an undeviating example of doing the right thing for his family and anyone he knew. He will be remembered for his generosity with his time and resources, for his wonderful sense of humor, and for his many catch phrases, such as: the food on his beard that he was “saving for later,” and saying, “It will feel better when it quits hurting.” These are two notable examples of expressions from Grandpa Green that will continue on in his family forever.

Special thanks to the staff of Lacrosse Health and Rehab Center. Your love of your job and care for your patients was an amazing comfort to him and his family in his last days. Bell Tower Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
