COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene School Board is looking for someone who wants to be responsible for the fate of thousands of people, do a lot of work, be held up to public criticism, and receive zero pay.

In other words, a new school board member.

Following former board member Dave Eubanks’ resignation last month, the board officially declared Trustee Zone 4’s position vacant at its Monday meeting. According to board clerk Lynn Towne, anyone who is a registered voter and resides in Trustee Zone 4 is eligible. She invited interested citizens to submit a resume and a letter of interest that contains contact information, a list of the main reasons they’re applying for the position, and top three objectives if appointed. Application deadline is July 27 at 3 p.m. The letter of interest should be typed, double-spaced with 12-point font, and no longer than two pages, said district spokesman Scott Maben.

Applications should be submitted to the Clerk of the Board, Lynn Towne, at 1400 N. Northwood Center Court, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.

The board will review all applications and may appoint a new board member in a public session at its Aug. 7 meeting, Maben said. The appointee will serve the remainder of the current term, through December 2021.

The trustee zone’s boundaries will change soon pending state board of education approval of a boundary realignment between the Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls school districts. Towne said that should take place this month. Some people currently residing in the Post Falls School District may find themselves new members of the Coeur d’Alene School District.
