Webb, Hutchison to compete

in NBA Summer League

Former Boise State basketball players Chandler Hutchison (Chicago Bulls) and James Webb III (Brooklyn Nets) will both compete in Las Vegas at the NBA Summer League for their respective teams beginning today.

Upon conclusion of the three-game preliminary schedule, each team will then be seeded in a tournament-style circuit that will determine the NBA Summer League champion in the championship game on July 17. Every team is guaranteed to play at least five games.

Hutchison — the 22nd pick in last month’s NBA Draft — will play his first game for the Bulls on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. PDT against the Cleveland Cavaliers on ESPN2.

Chicago will then take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN2 and wrap up with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday at 3 p.m. on NBA TV.

Webb, who played at North Idaho College as a freshman, recently completed the 2017-18 season on a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets. He played in 10 games with Brooklyn while spending the majority of the season with the team’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets. He averaged 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds while also shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc in 19 games for Long Island. He came to the Nets midseason after starting the season with the Delaware 87ers (Philadelphia 76ers).

Brooklyn will open the league with a game against the Orlando Magic today at 2 p.m. on NBA TV.

Webb and the Nets will then face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday at 4 p.m. on NBA TV and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.

Livreri named Boise State

BOISE — Boise State has hired Maggie Livreri as the third softball head coach in program history, athletic director Curt Apsey announced Thursday.

Livreri spent the previous seven seasons at Utah, her final two as associate head coach. She helped lead the Utes to the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons (2015-17), including back-to-back Super Regional appearances in 2016 and 2017.

Livreri joined the Utes as an assistant coach in 2012 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2017. Touted as one of the game’s rising stars in coaching, Livreri is heralded for her work with hitters. The Utes finished the 2017 season ranked in the top 25 in batting average (16th; .318), scoring (17th; 5.9 runs per game) and on-base percentage (22nd; .393).

She is also highly regarded for her work with catchers, as Utah combined for three-consecutive Pac-12 All-Defensive Team nods at the position from 2015-17.

Prior to joining the Utes, Livreri spent five seasons at her alma mater, UNLV. Following two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach (2007-08), she spent 2009-11 as a full-time assistant, helping lead the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament in 2009.

Originally from Las Vegas, she began her collegiate career at Colorado State University-Pueblo before transferring to UNLV for her final two seasons (2005-06). She earned a bachelor’s degree in university studies in 2006, and a master’s in higher education leadership in 2008, each from UNLV.
