HAYDEN — “The Pied Piper” is coming to town in August, and all local kids from grades 1-12 are invited to join in, said Hayden Arts Commission chair Mary Sorensson on Monday. The Missoula Children’s Theatre production offers 60 roles, including a few assistant director positions, to local youngsters. No previous acting or production experience is necessary, she added.

Open auditions will be held Aug. 6, with rehearsals tentatively planned from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. each day that week. There is no cost to be involved in this live theatrical production, she said.

“All costumes are provided by the Missoula Children’s Theatre. Parents drop off their kids with snacks/lunch provided by parents, and are not required to stay. They are welcome to stay and watch if they wish, as long as they do not interfere with the rehearsals in any way.”

Sorensson said the production is a chance to open doors to drama for local children.

“This is an effort to raise interest in all the arts, including the performing arts, in our community, and will provide a great opportunity to kids who might not otherwise have the chance to participate in something like this since it’s free to them.”

Youths will perform “The Pied Piper” Saturday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m.
