COEUR d’ALENE — Sydney Hovde had 15 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end for the Cardinals, who finished the night 20 of 70 shooting in a Northwest Athletic Conference loss to the Hawks of Pasco, Wash., at Rolly Williams Court.
NIC trailed 38-35 at the half, but was outscored 38-26 in the second half as Columbia Basin (12-4, 3-0 NWAC) pulled away for its 10th straight win.
“Our shooting percentage tells the entire story,” said NIC coach Chris Carlson, whose team hasn’t played at home since Nov 19. “We just didn’t have an edge and weren’t looking to score. We just looked to be happy to be home and didn’t compete like we needed to. We came out defensively and had a bunch of turnovers, but were missing some point blank shots than I just can’t explain. We’ve got to bounce right back and head to Treasure Valley and learn from this game quick and get on a roll again.”
Ronnie Harris scored a team-high 17 points for NIC (10-4, 1-1), which travels to Treasure Valley on Saturday.
Alexis Castro scored 17 points for Columbia Basin (12-4, 3-0).
