Hawks top Vikings on late 3-pointer in OT

RATHDRUM — Kaden Davis hit a 3-pointer with .3 seconds remaining in overtime, lifting the Lakeland Hawks to a 74-72 win over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a nonleague game at Hawk Court on Tuesday.

Kale Edwards gave Coeur d’Alene the lead with 21 seconds remaining on a pair of free-throws, but Davis’ shot was the difference.

Sophomores Ben Zubaly scored 17 points and Josh Neilson added 16 points for Lakeland (8-2), which opens 4A Inland Empire League play at Moscow on Thursday.

“Our young kids played really well,” said Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan, who also got 10 points from freshman Jalen Skalskiy. “Those guys played some good minutes and Davis hit a big shot for us.”

Nathan Johnson had eight rebounds for Lakeland.

Kale Edwards and Drew Hostetter scored 13 points each for Coeur d’Alene (4-8), which plays at Lake City on Friday in the annual Fight for the Fish spirit game.

PLUMMER — JJ Hall’s only basket of the night was just at the right time for the Knights.

Hall scored with four seconds remaining as the Knights beat the Vikings in a nonleague game at Ron Miller Court.

“We just couldn’t get a basket to drop in the first half,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “Defensively, we kind of buckled down and got after it in the second half and the shots started to fall. I was proud of how they battled back. To finally push through, it was really great to see.”

Talon Twoteeth scored 17 points for Lakeside (6-4), which hosts Clark Fork on Thursday.
