Firefighter Stairclimb fundraiser is March 3

| February 24, 2018 12:00 AM

Firefighters from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department are stepping up their game — about 800 feet.

They are hosting an event at Paragon Brewing, 5785 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, to raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb. Seven Coeur d'Alene Firefighters and others from the area will head to downtown Seattle on March 11 to climb the 788-foot-tall Columbia Center, which is the second-tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

They'll climb 69 flights of stairs and 1,356 steps to reach the observation deck overlooking the city. Last year, 2,000 firefighters from more than 300 departments and nine countries participated. The 2017 Stairclimbers brought in a record $2.4 million for blood cancer research and patient services.

All of the proceeds from Saturday's event will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Attendees will receive custom pint glasses and koozies. Beer and raffle tickets will be for sale all day.
