A simple idea to help raise extra money for the Post Falls School District has evolved into a serious fundraiser that still has its roots in fun.

Tickets are on sale for the 22nd annual Wine, Stein & Dine fundraiser, which is being held Saturday, March 3 at the Post Falls Greyhound Park & Event Center.

“It’s a fun gathering of friends while tasting over 200 new and familiar wines, microbrews and cider from area wineries and breweries. Fourteen restaurants will be serving wonderful food,” said Val Wilcox, a Post Falls Education Foundation board member. “We raise about $40,000 for educational grants every year. The money goes directly to teachers through grants for creative learning programs for their students.”

The nonprofit Post Falls Education Foundation enriches the educational experiences available to students in the school district.

“The goal remains simple, even after 21 years,” said Wilcox. “Offer teachers of all grade levels, K-12, the opportunity to easily apply for grant money to be used for creative and innovative classroom materials that reach beyond the budget capabilities. Because students have varied learning styles, these grants can greatly improve students’ opportunities to learn by providing equipment, books, visual and audio tools, updated technology and general curriculum enhancements.”

The event, which starts at 7 p.m., features tasting of microbrews and hard ciders from local breweries, wine from area wineries, along with an array of foods from local restaurants, live music with Bill Bozly, wine tree raffle, photo booth and silent auction. Professional judges will be judging the ciders, microbrews and food. Tickets cost $45, which includes all food, wine, cider and micro-brewed beer.

“These grants greatly enhance the learning experience of the students, and motivate the educators to create new ways to teach,” said Wilcox, “We have awarded over $575,000 in grants to teachers in the district in the last 21 years, thanks to the generous community in which we live.”
