Nonini offers finance glance

State Sen. Bob Nonini turned the light on.

The Coeur d’Alene Republican became just the second legislator from Kootenai County to voluntarily disclose basic financial information that would have been required had a House committee and the rest of the Legislature made similar disclosures mandatory. Idaho and Michigan are the only two states that do not require even a basic level of public financial disclosure from candidates for city, county and state offices.

Through editorials, The Press has encouraged all elected office holders in Kootenai County who have not already done so to share this information so citizens can be aware of areas that could show potential conflicts of interest, Financial disclosures can be emailed to Editor Mike Patrick, mpatrick@cdapress.com.

Nonini joins Rep. Paul Amador, another Coeur d’Alene Republican, as advocates for transparency. Local legislators who have not yet disclosed their financial interests include Sen. Mary Souza, Sen. Steve Vick, Rep. Vito Barbieri, Rep. Luke Malek, Rep. Eric Redman, Rep. Ron Mendive, and Rep. Don Cheatham.
