Many of this year's Coeur d'Alene Vikings to play college football

As many as 15 former Coeur d’Alene High football players could be on rosters of college football teams next fall, following the three-day early signing period in December and Wednesday’s first day of the regular signing period.

As many as 12 of those played on this year’s Viking football team, which reached the state 5A title game.

Quarterback Colson Yankoff (Washington), offensive lineman Noah Gunn (Air Force) and tight end Cole Ramseyer (Boise State) signed in December.

Since then, linebacker Ross Chadderdon signed with Idaho; running back/linebacker Caleb Beggerly and defensive back Kyler Prendergast signed with NAIA Montana Tech of Butte; and linebacker Ben Hoffman signed with NAIA Rocky Mountain of Billings.

Also, placekicker Seth Harrison is walking on at Eastern Washington, and offensive lineman Gabe Zanetti is walking on at Montana Tech.

Three others — Taylor Dawson (Eastern Oregon), Spencer Weisel (Pacific Lutheran, Rocky Mountain) and Kaden Hagel (Rocky Mountain) — are considering college offers.

Vikings already playing college football include quarterback Gunnar Amos (Idaho State), offensive lineman Matt James (Washington) and tight end Chase Blakley (Boise State).

Since 2010, more than 40 Coeur d’Alene High athletes have been offered football scholarships, Viking coach Shawn Amos said.

Montana Tech coach Chuck Morrell said of Beggerly, “Top player in the Inland Empire League. Explosive playmaker.”

According to his bio on the Montana Tech web site, Zanetti plans to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.

“Tough physical on-field presence. Great academic fit for Tech,” Morrell said of Zanetti.

Prendergast was recruited to Montana Tech as an “athlete.”

“Kyler had a fantastic year for Cd’A. Cd’A is one of the best run high school programs in the area, and Kyler was a key piece of their success this past season,” Morrell said.

Rocky Mountain is coached by Jason Petrino, cousin of Idaho coach Paul Petrino.

Post Falls High quarterback Nate Buer also signed with Montana Tech. He was recruited as an “athlete.”

“Nathan is a very athletic young man and a great academic fit here at Tech. He is a bonafide playmaker,” Morrell said.

Lakeland defensive lineman Jack Peed signed with NAIA Carroll College in Helena.

Idaho: Chadderdon was one of 10 new signees announced by Vandals coach Paul Petrino.

“Ross is real physical,” Petrino said. “I like that he can play inside and outside. He runs sideline to sideline, and he has really good hands. Does a lot of good things. He’s just a good football player ... very physical.”

The Vandals inked nine high school seniors and one junior college transfer, adding to the 12 student-athletes signed during the early signing period in December.

Seven of the signees are from Idaho, Oregon and Washington, including running back Khalil Forehand from Bishop Kelly High in Boise.

“The more success we have here, the better recruits we’ll get from around here,” Petrino said. “Early on we had to go farther away because it wasn’t what it used to be. The more we win here and the better we do, the better we’ll do recruiting around here.”
