Lake City 56,

Union High 31

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Halftime adjustments led to an effective third quarter of defensive pressure, which Lake City used to expand its lead and win its opener at the Vancouver Holiday tournament.

The Timberwolves (9-2) led 26-17 at halftime, but had missed quite a few first-half shots, coach James Anderson said — so Lake City turned to its full-court press.

“We responded really well after halftime. Our press forced some turnovers, and we converted those into easy baskets,” Anderson said.

Brooklyn Rewers had a strong game on both ends of the floor, Anderson said, with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Bridget Rieken had 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Klaire Mitchell had six assists for Lake City.

The Timberwolves face undefeated Skyview High of Vancouver (11-0) tonight at 8:30 in the second round of the tournament.

“Skyview should be a really strong test for us,” Anderson said.

We played a lot better defensively and did some good things. Jayda came off the bench and did a good job for us. It was just a better effort all-around. Eagle’s a talented team.”
