Saluting a hiring solution

| December 19, 2018 12:59 PM

You need help.

That’s not an insult. It’s an observation based on Idaho’s burgeoning economy and paucity of people able and willing to go to work for you.

But it’s OK. The doctor is in the house, and he/she might be wearing a uniform you recognize.

Army. Navy. Air Force. Marines. National Guard. Coast Guard. Merchant Marines.

As we close the book on 2018, this issue of Business Journal of North Idaho plants a seed for hiring solutions in the year ahead. Consider, please, giving a chance to that serviceman or servicewoman who might not have a bachelor’s degree; whose resume’ might not glisten with lustrous words or shiny piles of self-praise.

What the sources in these stories will tell you is that when you hire a veteran, you’re employing someone who will be loyal, dependable, hard-working and focused on the mission at hand. Many members of the service join right out of high school, but what they might lack in academic attainment or certain certifications they very well could surpass by what they’ve learned and accomplished as defenders of the nation.

The No. 1 complaint from employers in North Idaho is that they can’t find enough good employees.

The solution might be easier than they think.

Hire a hero.
