Haeg leads St. Maries past Sandpoint
ST. MARIES — Kaci Haeg had 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals, leading the St. Maries Lumberjacks past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 57-42 in a nonleague game Saturday.
“We had seven girls score, which was huge for us,” St. Maries coach John Cordell said. “It’s been something we’ve been working on all week in practice. Sandpoint’s a physical team. They’ve got some kids that can shoot the ball well and they never stop hustling. They’re always going 100 percent.”
Madison Cordell had 16 points and six steals, Alena Davenport 10 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks for St. Maries (2-3), which hosts Wallace on Tuesday.
Hattie Larson scored 13 points and Maddie Morgan added 11 points for Sandpoint (0-5), which travels to Bonners Ferry on Saturday.

POST FALLS — Rachel Schroeder scored 21 points as the host Jaguars defeated the Wildcat junior varsity at Post Falls Middle School.
Bella Murekatete had 20 points and 16 rebounds for Genesis Prep (2-0), and Emily Martinez had six points and six rebounds.
“It took a half to get our legs moving, but the senior leadership took over tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Brandon Haas said. “Mt. Spokane’s JV team is solid and they have a lot of good athletes. It was nice to see our girls take control after halftime.”
Makayela Ellison led the Mt. Spokane JV with 17 points.
Genesis Prep travels to Rogers on Thursday.

PALOUSE, Wash. — Tara Allen scored six points for the Knights in a nonleague loss to the Vikings.
“It was a pretty scrappy game,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “It was a defensive battle on both sides. Both teams were a little offensively challenged tonight, and we had a hard time getting shots to fall. Credit to Garfield-Palouse, they just made a couple more plays than we did.”
Lakeside (1-3) is scheduled to face Ambrose in the Lapwai Shootout on Friday.

SPOKANE — Genesis Wilkinson scored 13 points for the Eagles in an overtime win over the Timberwolves in the Border Clash at West Valley High.
“East Valley is a really good team,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “They’re really physical and bumped us off our offense a little bit. They just played really aggressive with their defensive style. They deserve a lot of credit for getting into us.”
Bridget Rieken had eight points and 10 rebounds, Brooklyn Rewers 10 points and Klaire Mitchell nine points and four assists for Lake City (4-2), which hosts Moscow on Wednesday.

SPOKANE — Sophomore Katy Ryan had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks, who trailed by just three points at halftime before getting outscored 18-8 in the third quarter of the Border Clash game at West Valley High.
“We were able to get her the ball in a position to score,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said of Ryan. “In the third quarter it kind of slipped away. We just didn’t have an answer when we needed to have an answer.”
Taylor Elpers had seven points and four assists for Lakeland (1-3), and Mel Loutzenhiser had four steals.
Hailey Marlow led West Valley with 20 points.
