Hatley qualifies for

U.S. Mid-Amateur

CLE ELUM, Wash. — Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake won a two-man playoff to claim the final spot in U.S. Mid-Amateur sectional qualifying Thursday at the par-71 Tumble Creek Club.

Hatley, the three time WSGA Mid-Amateur Player of the Year, was one of four players to advance to the 2018 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held Sept. 22-27 at Charlotte (N.C.) Country Club, with the stroke-play co-host venue being Carolina Golf Club, also located in Charlotte.

Hatley shot a 3-over-par 74. Jacob Rohde of Everett, Wash. and Jacob Koppenberg of Bellingham, Wash. each shot even-par 71 to earn co-medalist honors in leading the field of 70 players. Mark Strickland of Everett shot 2-over 73.

The U.S. Mid-Amateur is open to amateur golfers with a handicap index not exceeding 3.4 and who turn 25 years old as of Sept. 22, 2018.

Grove second by one stroke

at Northwest Open

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — North Idaho College men’s and women’s golf coach Russell Grove eagled the 18th hole to finish second by one stroke Wednesday at the Northwest Open Invitational at Wine Valley Golf Club.

Grove shot 65-69-67—201, 15 under par.

PGA Professional Shane Prante of The Home Course in DuPont, Wash., fired a final round 63, including a 29 on the back nine, to come from 7 shots back and win his third Northwest Open, and second in two years. He finished at 16-under 200.

Amateur Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake tied for 15th at 8-under 208 after shooting 69 in the final round.
