Gale B. Walley, 77

Gale Walley was born Nov. 17, 1940, to Harold and Clara Walley in Great Falls, Mont. Gale passed on to Heaven at his home in Post Falls, Idaho, on Feb. 6, 2018, at the age of 77, surrounded by his daughter, sisters, relatives and friends. He was at peace knowing he was going to be with his parents, wife and son after a long battle with health issues.

Gale graduated from Wallace High School in Wallace, Idaho. He then served in the Navy for four years (1959-1963), returning to the Silver Valley to work as a miner at the Galena, the Lucky Friday and the Bunker Hill for more than 20 years.

He met and married Kathy Haig in 1976, who had two children: daughter Karen and son Kevin. They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They worked for A.I.D. and for the Forest Service before deciding to purchase a moving company that he owned and operated for 30 years called “Local Moving” in Post Falls.

He loved fishing, traveling in his motor home with his four-wheeler and his close friend, Patty and beloved dog, Gidget. Animals were an important part of his life. He enjoyed taking his ’66 Impala to the car shows. One of his favorite pastimes was “gold panning,” though he never struck it rich. He loved history, getting his love of the past from his parents. He also loved watching sports (particularly the 49ers or Gonzaga) and golf was one of his favorites. An important part of his life was spent with frequent visits from his stepdaughter, Karen, enjoying many fun activities together throughout the years.

Gale was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; son Kevin; and his parents, Harold and Clara Walley. He is survived by his daughter, Karen; his two sisters, Colleen Walley and Lynn (Lon) Brower; his nephew, Michael (Cheryl) Brower and family; his niece, Kristen Marquis and family; and cousins Lauretta Stanfield and Sterling Burch; as well as his dog, Gidget.

There will be a service with a military honor guard at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at the Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

The family would like to thank North Idaho Hospice volunteers for taking such wonderful care of Gale and offering kindness to his family. Memorial donations can be made to North Idaho Hospice, Kootenai County Humane Society, Veterans Association or a charity of your choice in his honor.
