Bonners Ferry holds off St. Maries

ST. MARIES — Preston McLeish scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute to send the Bonners Ferry Badgers past the St. Maries Lumberjacks 1-0 in the season and Intermountain League opener for both on Saturday at City Park.

“We didn’t have a lot of chances, but played them pretty even in the first half,” St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. “The kids did a good job and played pretty well.”

St. Maries hosts Timberlake on Tuesday.

LEWISTON — Freshman Cole Daricek scored 10 minutes into the match for the Hawks in a loss to the Bengals in the season opener for both at Walker Field.

“We were pretty even in the first half, and they scored to take a 2-1 lead toward the end of the half,” Lakeland coach Jeremiah Beckett said. “We didn’t have any subs and were just gassed in the 95-degree heat. Overall, it was a very clean game, but we just ran out of gas.”

The teams play again at Sunrise Rotary Field in Rathdrum on Tuesday.
