COEUR d’ALENE — After three straight splits to begin league play, Lake City swept on Tuesday, beating host Coeur d’Alene 5-0 and 8-6 at Ted Page Field to move into first place in the 5A Inland Empire League.

Kodie Kolden pitched a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts, and hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning of the opener for Lake City (14-3, 5-3 5A IEL).

Elijah Samaha hit a solo homer in the seventh for the Timberwolves, and Kyle Manzardo went 2 for 2 and scored twice.

In the second game, Coeur d’Alene (9-8, 3-5) scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead. But Lake City answered with four runs in the top of the fifth, and held on.

Bridger Rinaldi hit a two-run homer in the third to boost Lake City’s lead to 3-0.

In the fourth, Riley Alley of Coeur d’Alene hit a two-run pinch-hit double, and Noah Mayfield followed with a two-run triple to put the Vikings ahead.

In the top of the fifth, Brandon Gay’s two-run single highlighted a four-run fifth for Lake City, all the damage coming after two out.

Coeur d’Alene scored twice in the sixth to pull within two runs. Manzardo pitched around a leadoff walk in the seventh to earn the save.

“We did a good job battling back in the second game,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Mahin, whose team has lost five straight. “In the first game Kodie did a good job keeping us off balance, and we weren’t able to find any holes. That second game we made some mistakes and gave that game back to them, when we could have got the split.”

Lake City plays host to Post Falls on Friday in a 5A IEL doubleheader. Coeur d’Alene plays host to Lewiston on Saturday in a league twinbill.
