Lorraine Frances Fitzpatrick, 79

Lorraine Frances Fitzpatrick, 79 years of age, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at MorningStar Senior Living in Boise, Idaho.

Lorraine was born on July 26, 1938, to Perry and Faye Farnam in Moscow, Idaho. Her parents were divorced and she was raised by her Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Howard. At age 7, a new family was created when her father married Neva, who had two children, Dona Kay and Rob. She attended Moscow High School, worked at the local movie theater, marched and played saxophone in the band and enjoyed swimming. She also loved to ride her horse, Bettie, with her Aunt Jamie Howell at Neva’s family farm. In 1956, she entered Kinman Business School for a secretarial certificate, and graduated from there in 1957.

She went on to work her first job at Washington State College. Lorraine married W. Duane Fitzpatrick on Nov. 9, 1957. She worked at the State Forestry Office in Sandpoint, Idaho. Lorraine and Duane loved the water and spent a lot of time swimming, fishing, boating and snowmobiling in the winters.

They owned 7 acres in Sagle, Idaho, and worked a large raspberry patch and garden. She worked as a homemaker once her three girls were born. She created wonderful holiday memories for them year after year with her special cakes and decorations she made. Lorraine shared her love of Jesus by playing the organ in churches. She also taught students piano and sewing lessons for 4-H.

Lorraine and Duane lived in Sandpoint until 1975, at which time they moved to Spokane, Wash., until their retirement in 1993. In August 1994, they moved into a 34-foot fifth-wheel trailer and became “snowbirds,” traveling between Hope, Idaho, and Yuma, Ariz. Lorraine and Duane settled in Post Falls, Idaho, in order to be closer to family and be closer to medical care after she was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. Following Duane’s death in May of 2014, Lorraine moved to Boise, Idaho.

Surviving Lorraine are daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl (Billie) Schulz of Wisconsin; Joyce (David) Cutbirth of Boise and Karen (Jeff) Schmick of Spokane; grandchildren, Hannah Vanderwiel, Philip Cutler (Cutbirth), Noah and Drew Schmick; great-granddaughter, Violett Vanderwiel; step-brother, Rob Farnam; step-sister, Dona Kay Faubus and half-brother, John Theade.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 21, 2018, at Pinecrest Cemetery, with Corey Kirkham of Calvary Rathdrum officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at Calvary Chapel Sandpoint, located at 418 N. Third Ave., Sandpoint, ID 83864, immediately following the service.
