Julie (Eliason) Meier, 84

Julie (Eliason) Meier, 84, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 12, 2018. She was born on July 7, 1933, in Spokane, Wash., and was raised in the Spokane area. Her father and mother, Oscar and Norma Eliason, owned an upholstery shop and ran a dairy farm. She was the youngest of three sisters.

After graduation from Lewis and Clark High School in 1951, she married Lawrence (“Larry”) George Meier on Aug. 25, 1951, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Spokane, Wash. Their first home was a two-room apartment in Seattle, where they attended Northwest Bible College in Seattle to prepare for missionary work in Cuba, but God had another plan for their lives.

Julie assisted her husband as he pastored Loon Lake Assembly from 1957-1961; Kailua Assembly of God in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii from 1961-1963; Deer Park Assembly of God from 1963-1967 and Glad Tidings Church in Hilo, Hawaii from 1967-1972. During this time Julie held Children’s Revivals, Child Evangelism meetings and Bible Schools in various churches. She wrote articles for “The Pentecostal Evangel” from 1961 through 1967.

One of Julie’s proudest achievements was returning to college after her daughter, Melody, was in high school. She received both a Bachelor and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Hawaii. After several positions as librarian at different schools, including Northwest Bible College, she became the director of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, held that position for 25 years, and was a prime mover in the building of the new library, which opened in 2007. She was named “woman of distinction” by Soroptimist International for 1988.

Her hobbies and interests included bike riding, walking, traveling, writing, working with roses and reading. Her favorite author was A.J. Cronin and her favorite books were Cronin’s “The Citadel” and “The Keys of the Kingdom.” Her favorite saying was, “God made a beautiful world.” The quality she admired most in a person was “kindness.” The best advice she said she ever received was, “You can do it!”

She is survived by her daughter Melody (Steve) Hudson. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Justin Meier and Jaime (Arthur) Morese as well as her sister Edith (William) Wisecarver.

She was predeceased by her husband Larry, her son Mark Jay Meier and her sister Ethel (Kenn) Woll.

Viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Spokane Memorial Gardens, S. 5909 Cheney-Spokane Road. Julie’s memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
