Women of action

| April 12, 2018 5:25 PM

Our Women's Entrepreneur Day: Coeur d'Alene and Spokane Group is in full swing, preparing for our November event in Spokane this year. Each year it will alternate between each city, and last year it was our inaugural year here in Coeur d'Alene. This amazing group of women dare to make a difference in their particular fields of business or professions. What does it take to be a Woman of Action in your community, home and work? What does it take to have the drive and confidence to step out of your comfort zone and choose to make a difference? When we see a cause or injustice, will we stand up to intervene?

We all have dreams, thoughts and ideas about things we should do to make a difference, but it's what we do with those ideas that changes lives. When we have a thought it takes confidence to put those thoughts in action. We have to believe, be brave and have courage to step out and take a risk.

Recently my husband forwarded me an interesting read, “The Confidence Code for Girls: Taking Risks, Messing Up and Becoming Your Totally Amazingly Imperfect, Totally Powerful Self,” by Kathy Kay and Claire Shipman. They had already written, “The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self Assurance, What Women Should Know” and now they are hoping to educate young girls about what confidence is, so they can start young to make a difference.

They described confidence to this younger generation as the key ingredient to generate healthy action. Examples might be that they decide to go out for the soccer team, even if they might not make it. Confidence is standing up for your friend when other girls are being mean to her because she wears outdated clothes. Confidence is raising money for a friends family at your school that lost their house in a fire, even if you have to give up some of your free time with your friends.

Confidence is not being full of yourself or arrogant. Confidence merely allows us to put our thoughts into action. Actions that can make a difference. Often we have ideas, but we lack the confidence to make them a reality. Why? Well, the job of putting our ideas all together may seem daunting. But is it really? What if we were willing to work together to make changes for our community?

Our Women's Entrepreneur Day: Coeur d'Alene and Spokane Group is made up of women in the business world who want to work together to empower, celebrate, inspire and support women and girls in business and technology locally and globally. The national organization is headquartered at the United Nations.

It is celebrated in 144 countries, and is the world's largest celebration of women innovators and leaders; launching startups, bringing ideas to life, driving economic growth and expanding human welfare. This group is called to action to use our varied gifts and skill sets in our local community and in the world to make a difference.

Your call to action is to join us, as we band together to improve our communities and the lives of women and their families here and abroad.

Currently we are looking for corporate and community sponsors to help us at our November meeting. Email me at sheree@lakecitypt.com if you are interested in being part of this change for our world or for more information.
