POST FALLS — Coeur d’Alene scored twice in the first six minutes and rolled to a 5-0 victory at Post Falls in 5A Inland Empire League girls soccer Thursday.

Erika Skindlov assisted on the first goal, by Maddie Morris in the second minute, then scored the second goal in the sixth minute for Coeur d’Alene (7-3, 3-0 5A IEL). Skindlov finished with a goal and two assists.

“We came out strong,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “We knew Post Falls was a physical team, so we wanted to match that physicality. We just moved the ball around really well, took advantage of some openings and we finished.”

Megan Drake added two goals for Coeur d’Alene, and Vredenburg praised defenders Kiah Morton, Jordan Roth and Sophia Vietri, who “kept the keeper safe today.”

Post Falls dropped to 3-5-3, 2-2-1.

“Coeur d’Alene scored three quick goals that took a bit of the wind out of our sails early in the game, but after that the girls settled in and battled really well,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “We made mistakes and they capitalized on them. They made mistakes and we didn’t take advantage. We had multiple scoring opportunities but just couldn’t get the job done.”

- BOYS

Coeur d’Alene 2

Post Falls 1

COEUR d’ALENE — The Viking boys, as coach Jeff Lake explained, haven’t dealt with adversity very well this season.

Falling behind in matches, they haven’t been able to get back into it.

Thursday, that changed.

Drake Prohaska scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Chris Swider on a corner kick in the 72nd minute, lifting the Vikings past the Trojans in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Coeur d’Alene High.

Post Falls beat Coeur d’Alene 4-0 last Saturday.

“We definitely got knocked down to the mat last weekend,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Lake said. “For us, it was about responding. Our emotions and energy changed. Overall, it was about our mentality. We gave up the first goal, and it was the first time all year we’ve came back to win. It’s a young team, but we’re starting to grow up as a team and as a group.”

Greg DeVerna tied the match in the 36th minute for Coeur d’Alene (8-2, 3-1 5A IEL), which hosts Lake City on Saturday.
