Learn about Inland Northwest electric railroads
The history of the Coeur d’Alene and Spokane Electric Railroad will be the subject of this month’s Inland Northwest Milestones Lecture Series at Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
Historian Robert Singletary will present the lecture Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the library, 702 E. Front Ave.
The “electric line,” as it was commonly called by local residents, operated from 1903 to 1939. It played a major role in the development of Coeur d’Alene as a tourist destination during the early 1900s. Singletary will also discuss other lines of the electric railroad system which connected to Hayden Lake, Moscow and other communities in the Inland Northwest.
A book about the Inland Empire Electric Line, written by Clive Carter and published by the Museum of North Idaho, will be available for purchase during the program.
The Inland Northwest Milestones Lecture Series is sponsored by the Museum and the Coeur d‘Alene Public Library. The program is free to the public. Call (208) 664-3448 for more information.
