Harry Perry, 82
Harry Delbert Perry was a man who liked to make plans and complete them. On Sept. 9, 2017 he completed his last plan at the University of Washington Medical Center where he was being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. With family by his side he was able to share with us his last words of wisdom.
Harry was born to Harry A. Perry and Helen (Ritter) Perry on Feb. 18, 1935 in Spokane, Wash. During his early years he worked at the Perry family business, Central Saw Works in Spokane. Graduating from North Central High School in 1953, he joined the United States Marine Corps in November. He entered Washington State College in January of 1956. Joining Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, he met his future wife, Ione West, at a fraternity social function. They married August 1957 and lived in Pullman, Wash. until June of 1960 when Harry graduated from WSU with a business administration degree.
With two children in tow Harry and Ione set out on their next adventure, moving to Marysville, Wash., beginning work with Scott Paper Company in Everett, Wash. In 1961 he started his career with GTE in marketing, transferring to Coeur d’Alene in 1974 as area sales manager and retiring in 1988.
Harry had a strong belief in giving back to his community. He served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity and Hospice of North Idaho during the planning and building of the Hospice House. In 1982 he was the president of the CDA Chamber of Commerce and was the first chairman of Jobs Plus.
Harry’s 30 years of retirement allowed time for travel across North America in their R.V. Travelling internationally, Harry realized his dream to golf the old course at St. Andrews in Scotland.
Harry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ione, and was the proud and loving father of Karin Stoltz (Don) of Plains, Mont., Kendon Harry Perry (Judy) of Sagle, Idaho, Dale Perry (Carol) of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Diane Turner (Steve), Hayden, Idaho. He had the joy of sharing in the lives of his grandchildren; Brent Underdown (Jessica), Melody Taylor (Mike), Ian Turner (Whitney), Grant Turner (Ashley), Aubrie Perry, Kyle Harry Perry, Rachel Perry, Shaila Perry and Noelle Perry; and five great-grandchildren, Dominick Stepper, Wyatt Tilton, Caylee Underdown, Lily Taylor and Ellery Turner. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brothers, Ken and Don.
The family would like to thank the University of Washington Medical Center and SCCA for the love and care they gave Harry.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene.
