COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Super 1 Foods store is undergoing a $2.5 million makeover that will also bring several new offerings to the table.

"Online shopping with quick store pickup will be one of the first projects completed hopefully before the snow flies," said vice president Randy McIntire.

"New departments will include a tortilla factory and a sweet snack shop."

Construction will include a new exterior, parking layout and landscaping.

"We want a more modern look to be with the times," McIntire said. "We've had minor remodels a couple times, but this is the first major one. Coeur d'Alene is a changing city and we need to get caught up."

McIntire said an additional $1.5 million will be spent on new equipment and interior decor.

Spokane-based Meridian Construction started the project last week and completion is expected to be in late January or early February. The project will be done in phases, allowing the store to stay open during construction.

"Tracy Turnbull, our store manager, will be working with our crew to make sure that our customers are well taken care of during the transition," McIntire said. "Remodels can be quite exciting, but occasionally do bring some inconvenience along the way."

McIntire said the hope is to complete most of the exterior work before winter weather sets in.

Other new interior features will include a cut fruit and vegetable bar, expanded sushi bar, seafood department and deli.

"The deli will have greatly improved and expanded hot and cold ready-to-eat foods, a large new salad bar, take-out meals, growler station, and a much larger and modern seating area," McIntire said.

The 67,000-square-foot store, the second to be built in the family-owned chain after the Hayden location was constructed in 1985.

Meanwhile, the Super 1 Foods store in Athol is slated to open in March.

The company recently completed a remodel of its store in Stevensville, Mont. A remodel is also planned for its Hamilton, Mont., store.
