TEXAS: Don't mess with it

| September 24, 2017 1:00 AM

As I read the letter from Betsy Rosenberg concerning “rednecks” in Texas and neighboring states and their pleas for help after the destructive hurricane Harvey, I was filled with sadness and concern. The letter was filled with hatred and resentment and erroneous stereotypes as well as inaccurate facts,

She characterizes all Texans as “arrogant rich creeps” who deserve no help or compassion. She portrays them as “beer drinking rednecks” who drink to such excess that they end up on their bellies, staggering to their knees and feet only to expect access to Idaho tax money to help them continue with their lifestyle.

She lambastes the residents for deliberately choosing to live on the “seashore” with no flood insurance. She has many other rants too numerous to repeat.

Has she looked at a map recently? I’m pretty sure the huge city of Houston is not considered seashore real estate and the majority of Houston residents are anything but “rich.” Texas is no different than any other state. All have bigots and selfish, uninformed people.

Fortunately these people are tremendously outnumbered by caring, generous, loving citizens whose actions in helping neighbors and friends alike exemplify this nation’s true values. I pity this sad, angry, hate-spewing person and, yes I admit it, I am a Christian and a naturalized Texan!
