Kathleen Kies

74th Anniversary

Wayne and Kathleen Kies celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, with friends and family in Pocatello.

Wayne and Kathleen both originated from South Dakota, but did not know each other. Wayne served in the Army from 1940-41. After the service, he ended up in Seattle working at Boeing. That is where he met the love of his life, Kathleen, who had left South Dakota with her sister to work at Boeing.

They were married Sept. 21, 1943, in Seattle at a small Catholic church. They then moved to Minneapolis, Minn., when Wayne was called back to the Army in 1944-46. They also had their first child Wayne Jr. while in Minneapolis. The next three kids, Jean, Kathy and Charles, came along after they headed out west and settled in Coeur d’Alene. One of their great memories of Coeur d’Alene is the lake property they purchased in the late ’50s, and all the great friends who helped build and enjoy the cabin.

Wayne served with the Knights of Columbus, and worked at Kaiser Aluminum until he retired in 1983. Kathleen served with the Catholic Daughters, and eventually worked 16 years for The North Shore Convention Center as a manager. After they both retired, they spent the next 20 plus years traveling and then settled back down in Pocatello.

They have six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dave and Sue Walker

40th Anniversary

Dave and Sue (Gregg) Walker celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They were married on Sept. 17, 1977, in Coeur d’Alene. They met cruising Sherman Avenue in the ’70s and now have two grown children, Aaron and Tia (Clifford) and one amazing grandson, Liam.

They celebrated with a nice evening party at their daughter’s house with friends and family. They are complete soul mates as they owned and managed a business together in downtown Coeur d’Alene, Ace Travel.
