'Reading in paradise'

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Public Library has earned the status of being "on fleek."
Fleekist.com, a news, entertainment and fashion website, named Coeur d'Alene's library as the best in the state in a "Best Library in Every State" article released Sept. 12.
"Even the name sounds beautiful," the article reads. "Add in the stunning lake vistas and we’re in reading paradise."
Library director Bette Ammon said it came as a surprise when she saw the article last week.
"Most people who come into this building say it's the most beautiful library they've been in," she said Wednesday. "I'm kind of used to hearing that, but it's always a joy. We’re really proud and we feel really lucky."
The Coeur d'Alene Library shares recognition on this list with classic, ornate libraries, such as the New York Public Library and Iowa State Law Library, as well as more modern and unique libraries, including the Kansas City Public Library, the Seattle Central Library and the Billings Public Library.
The Coeur d'Alene Library just celebrated its 10th anniversary since it opened at its current site at 702 E. Front Ave.
"We have the good fortune to be placed where we are. The location and the design of the building suits what we’re trying to do here," said library communications coordinator David Townsend. "A lot of it reflects on what Architects West came up with when they designed the building, and a lot of what Architects West worked with was reflecting what the staff wanted and what the Library Foundation wanted. It's nice to have that recognized."
