Grove wins Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship
WORLEY — North Idaho College men’s and women’s golf coach Russell Grove won the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship on Thursday at Circling Raven Golf Club by five strokes over 2007 champion Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Wash.
Jerrel Grow of Pronghorn Golf Club in Bend, Ore., finished third.
Grove shot three straight 5-under 67s and finished at 15-under 201 for the 54-hole tournament. Thornton shot 71 on Thursday and finished at 10-under 206. Grow shot 74 in the last round and ended up at 7-under 209.
The top seven professionals earned a spot and advanced directly to the PGA Professional Championship at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, Calif., on June 17-20, 2018.
In addition to Grove, Thornton, and Grow, Trevor Fox of The Golf Club at Black Rock, Bob Rannow of Sandpines Golf Links (Florence, Ore.), John Cassidy of The Home Course (DuPont, Wash.) and Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor Golf Club (Seattle) all earned spots.
Fox shot 69 on Thursday and finished at 6-under 210.
Additionally, the low 20 scores at the 2018 PGA Professional Championship will earn a place in the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St Louis, set for Aug. 16-19, 2018.
