FLU: Nothing to sneeze at
Flu season is quickly approaching in North Idaho. The term “flu” is commonly used to describe the common cold, but Influenza virus can be severe and leave you suffering with fever, headaches, respiratory issues and fatigue for days — or even weeks. Children and elderly adults can be especially vulnerable to complications caused by flu. In fact, the flu is linked to hundreds of hospitalizations and 20 or so deaths in Idaho, each year.
The single best way to prevent the spread of the flu is getting an annual flu shot. A flu shot is a safe and effective way to prevent illness and save lives by significantly limiting your likelihood of passing on flu symptoms to vulnerable loved ones.
If health isn’t motivation enough, consider the economic benefits. When most people in a community get an annual flu shot, there are less school absences due to flu-related illness, which keeps parents at work and local business productivity up.
Fall is busy, the holidays are busier. Don’t make the flu shot an afterthought and consider the choice to vaccinate. Head to your local pharmacy, doctor’s office or Panhandle Health District and get a flu shot today.
