A dominant 5A IEL draw
- GIRLS SOCCER
COEUR d’ALENE — The host Lake City Timberwolves dominated the match.
Post Falls senior goalkeeper Maddie Grangaard did as well.
With that, it wound up a 1-1 draw on Wednesday between the Trojans and Timberwolves in 5A Inland Empire League play under the lights at the Lake City High football field.
“We’ve been doing this (playing a night game) a long time and have a good group of players that are still trying to find themselves,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “We’re really looking for the leadership to step up, and they’ve got it. We dominated the match, but you’ve got to score goals. And their keeper was dominant tonight. And the end of the day, we’ve got a job to do and we didn’t do it.”
Lilly Scott scored on an assist from Chloe Teets in the fifth minute for Lake City (2-1-3, 1-0-1 5A IEL), which hosts Sandpoint on Tuesday.
Maddie Lasher scored in the 53rd minute for Post Falls (1-4-3, 0-1-1), which visits to Lewiston today.
“I was really proud of how the girls played tonight,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “Offensively, we had a tough time stringing passes together, but defensively they played extraordinarily well and did a great job of disrupting Lake City’s attack. Rickie Colosimo, Maddy Lasher and Sammi DuBois did really well on the counter attack.”
