Tibetan nun to speak at NIC on 'Living with Integrity'

| September 20, 2017 1:00 AM

Venerable Thubten Chodron, an American nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, will speak on “Living with Integrity: Standing up for Compassion and Justice” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Edminster Student Union Building Lake Coeur d’Alene Room on North Idaho College’s main campus.

Integrity means living by the values we cherish, even when they are challenged. Ven. Chodron offers heartfelt wisdom on why we should never lose hope, even in trying times. With a realistic perspective, we can stand up for what we believe in as we seek to put our principles into practice.

Ven. Chodron has practiced the Buddha’s teachings for more than 36 years. A student of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, she has published numerous books and is the founder and abbess of Sravasti Abbey, a Buddhist monastery near Newport, Wash. She teaches internationally and is well-known for her practical and humorous advice for bringing the Buddha’s wisdom into our daily lives.

The event is in conjunction with NIC’s Common Read book “Just Mercy,” by Bryan Stevenson, but it is not necessary to be familiar with the book to enjoy the presentation.

The presentation is being offered at no charge, but donations for the abbey are welcome. Attendees are asked to arrive a few minutes early.
