Developing: Gun threat by text prompts school lockdowns

| September 19, 2017 3:05 PM

UPDATE: A suspect is in custody and schools are no longer in lockdown.

Seltice Elementary, Mullan Trail Elementary and Frederick Post Kindergarten in Post Falls have been locked down and police are at Seltice Elementary after a threat involving a gun was received via text message, according to police in Post Falls.

It appears the threat came from outside the school. Investigators are tracking the cell phone it came from.

Police say a teen is suspected of sending the text, with a photo of a handgun, to an ex-girlfriend and asking her to meet him at Seltice Elementary. It’s unclear at this time what the connection is to Seltice other than a meeting place.

We have also heard it may involve two males and be the result of a drug deal gone bad.

Schools in the Lakeland School District and Coeur d’Alene are also taking precautions with lockdowns or having students shelter-in-place.

This is a developing story.
