State liquor stores to move soon
Two Idaho State Liquor Stores are moving to new locations,
The one at 9170 N. Hess St. (just off Highway 95 in Hayden) will move to the location Hancock Fabrics left on the west side of Prairie Shopping Center. The tentative opening is Monday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Phone (208) 772-4413.
The store at 3276 W. Prairie Ave. (just west of Atlas Road) will move to the east wing of the Fred Meyer complex (560 W. Kathleen Ave.). The tentative moving date is Sept. 26 with hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone (208) 772-3916.
The website of www.liquor.idaho.gov is interesting. The Idaho State Liquor Division was established in 1935 to provide greater control over the distribution, sale and consumption of alcohol beverages. Last year it had more than $175 million in sales with $60 million returned to the state. It has 200 full-time and 150 temporary employees with 66 state stores and 107 contract stores. The projected distribution of funds to the state, cities and counties in the next 10 years is $850 million.
House of Cards opens in Post Falls
A sports bar with real turf as the flooring, The House of Cards Bar & Grill has opened where The Pit Stop was at 830 N. Spokane St. in Post Falls.
Billing itself as the “Home of the Turf” featuring the NFL Sunday Ticket with eight TVs, it offers beer and wine, hot dogs, burgers, chili, Frito pies, walking tacos and breakfasts for football Sundays. It has bar and group seating for 99 customers. No smoking.

The Front Porch to open in Hayden
Gathering vendors next Sunday, The Front Porch will open about Oct. 1 where Sweet Pickins was previously at 9521 Government Way in downtown Hayden.
Owner Jacquie Brooks and her vendors will offer the works of local artisans, crafters, antiques, repurposed antiques, gift items and North Idaho souvenirs. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Phone (208) 640-6771.

- The Subway store downtown has closed and neighboring Willamette Bank is expanding into that space at 704 E. Sherman.
- The website for new business SurfMyAds at 726 Lakeside should be www.promocodes.com.
- Evans Brothers Coffee will be at 504 E. Sherman Ave. (behind Community Bank), and in late December MoMo sushi bar, wok and grill will be where Bonsai Bistro was at 101 E. Sherman. Fuel Fitness & Nutrition has a new building opening in early October at Haycraft and Government Way. On Appleway watch for Firehouse Subs and Dairy Queen.
- Hayden Lake Physical Therapy will be on Prairie Avenue. The Cd’A Kmart will close by Oct. 1 as one of 43 closing nationwide by Sears Co.
- Future new hotels include a Staybridge Suites in Riverstone and a Fairfield Inn on Northwest Boulevard. The Shilo Inn on Appleway will change to Comfort Suites after a major remodel.
- Openings coming on Fourth Street include the Relic Moon offering piercing and body jewelry and the White Pine coffee place. Encore Shoes will come to Silver Lake Mall. Command Center will have a space in Sunset Village.
- Post Falls openings include Popeye’s (opening later this month) and Riverstone Dental Care on Mullan Avenue.
- Fast Cash 4 Cards and Massage Envy businesses will be in Ironwood Square. A new Asian eatery will be where the Kynrede Cafe was removed in Hayden. Watch for El Taco Loco off Canfield Avenue, EyeGuys Optical in Hayden, Rumour Boutique expanding on Government Way and Vine & Olive restaurant in Riverstone.
- “There’s several reasons this is wrong” is wrong. “There’s” stands for “there is,” which is singular. That mistake bugs a reader.
- A real headline: Worker suffers leg pain when an 800-pound ball hits his head.
- Two many people who don’t really need handicap parking spaces use those marked. A handicapped space sign saying “Van accessible” means it’s spaced for a vehicle that has a wheelchair ramp coming from its side.
