St. Luke's to celebrate 125-year anniversary
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene will celebrate 125 years of serving the community this weekend.
The celebration will take place at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the church, 501 Wallace Ave. Festivities will include food, a photo slide-show, a musical performance about the church’s history, and historian Robert Singletary from the Museum of North Idaho will speak about the connection between the early history of the church and Fort Sherman. Singletary will give his address as an officer from Fort Sherman, while wearing the military dress of the time. The Rt. Rev. Talbot, Episcopal bishop of Wyoming, held services at the Fort chapel in 1878. On Sept 6, 1891, a group of Episcopalians worshiped in the Odd Fellows Hall at Fourth and Sherman in Coeur d’Alene and made plans to build a church. The first service in the Queen Anne-style church “on the hill” at Fifth and Wallace was held on March 13, 1892.
The public is invited to attend Sunday’s celebration. All are welcome. Info: (208) 664-5533
