Viking boys top Lewiston

LEWISTON — Tough was sitting on the sidelines for nearly two weeks while the smoke in the area cleared off enough so they could play.
Even tougher, getting on the bus and traveling for the 5A Inland Empire League opener against Lewiston at Walker Field.
Coeur d’Alene was up to the challenge however, getting a goal and assist from defender Greg DeVerna in a 3-0 win on Wednesday.
“Really, it’s always tough to come to Lewiston and play,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Lake said. “With three points, we’re happy with how we played and it’s a good result. DeVerna had a great match with a goal on a corner kick and an assist. When one of our defenders is getting a goal and assist, it’s pretty cool to see from a senior captain.”
Cameron Dance and Gabe Nazemi scored in the second half for Coeur d’Alene (4-1), which visits Sandpoint Saturday.
First half — 1, Cd’A, Greg DeVerna (Drake Prohaska), 19:00. Second half — 2, Cd’A, Cameron Dance (Chris Swider), 46:00. 3, Cd’A, Gabe Nazemi (DeVerna), 79:00.
Shots on goal — Cd’A 9, Lew 2.
Saves — Cd’A, Shawn McKeeken 2; Lew, Matthew Hersh 5.

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg was looking for this kind of match.
And after having its first two attempts at a 5A Inland Empire League opener postponed, it was probably what Coeur d’Alene needed as well.
Megan Drake had two goals for the Vikings in a win over the Bengals at Coeur d’Alene High in the 5A IEL opener for both.
Coeur d’Alene visits Central Valley on Friday.
First half — 1, Lew, Madison Captain (Demi Randall), 10:00. 2, Cd’A, Megan Drake (Sarah Swider), 12:00. 3, Cd’A, Kylie Hanson (unassisted), 38:00. Second half — 4, Cd’A, Drake (Swider), 50:00.
Shots on goal — Lew 6, Cd’A 20.

SPOKANE — It was just what Lake City needed according to coach Matt Ruchti.
Something to build on.
Annica Wilson and Bridget Rieken scored first half goals for the Timberwolves in a loss to the Panthers.
“It was a pretty even game,” Ruchti said. “We were playing on back-to-back days, and got a chance to rest some players, but weren’t at full strength. We gave up goals on three restarts, which is mental lapses. We plan on ironing those things out, but that was the difference in the game. We gave up goals on two corner kicks, and one off a free kick. We had opportunities and a couple that could have changed the game.”
Lake City (2-1-1) plays Lewis and Clark on Monday at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.
First half — 1, Mead, DeShazo (unassisted), 20:00. 2, LC, Annica Wilson (unassisted), 30:00. 3, Mead, Schoezler (unassisted), 35:00. 4, LC, Bridget Rieken (Chloe Teets), 39:00. 5, Mead, Cardenas (unassisted), 40:00. Second half — 6, Mead, DeShazo (unassisted), 66:00.
Shots on goal — LC 9, Mead 10.
Saves — LC, Marlee Lambert 2, Capi Halladay 3; Mead, unknown 7.
