Robert Degitz, 88
Robert Francis “Bob” Degitz, 88, of Athol, Idaho, passed away Sept. 12, 2017, at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born in Homestead, Ore., to Charles Degitz and Anna Rom on Aug. 12, 1929.
While working in Lander, Wyo., Bob met the love of his life, Marjorie Dean. They soon married on Sept. 26, 1955, in Boise, Idaho. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 in Germany. He was honorably discharged.
In his younger years, Bob worked as a core driller on various dams throughout the western United States including Dworshak Dam in Orofino, Idaho. When dam construction concluded, Bob parlayed his core drilling experience to become a water well driller, and later, a water well inspector for Idaho Department of Water Resources. An active member of his community, Bob was a 32nd degree mason in Scottish Rite and a member of the Calam Temple Shriners based in Lewiston, Idaho.
Bob is survived by his spouse, Marjorie of Athol, Idaho; their daughters, Tamara Degitz and Robin (Tom) Colwell; and grandson Mathew Colwell, all of Coeur d’Alene; brother Earl Robinette (Cheryl) of Umatilla, Ore.; and sister Joan Robinette of Pendleton, Ore.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Bob’s name to Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
A visitation/viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. A graveside is planned for 3 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
