Conservation lecture and dinner honors Scott Reed

The Idaho Conservation League is hosting the second conservation lecture and dinner Thursday, Sept. 21, in honor of the late Scott Reed, one of ICL’s founders in 1973. Reed is remembered as a champion of countless environmental causes, including the preservation of Tubbs Hill, in Coeur d’Alene.

This year ICL welcomes speaker John Stocks, executive director of the National Education Association. A very close family friend of Scott and Mary Lou Reed, Stocks served with Mary Lou in the Idaho Senate.

“He is a champion of social justice and education nationwide. The NEA, the nation’s largest union, is a national leader in education reform,” said a news release announcing the event.

The title of Stock’s lecture is “Our Path Together — Moving Forward in Idaho and Beyond.” Stocks will comment on challenges that progressive leaders face in Washington, D.C., but more than that, he’ll speak to the opportunities found in collaboration, grassroots action, and deep relationships, all of which are strategies that drive the Idaho Conservation League today.

“As long as I’ve done my work — well over 30 years in Idaho — I’ve felt the presence of John Stocks,” said Rick Johnson, ICL’s long-tenured executive director. “His deep connections to Idaho and his many contacts in Washington, D.C., have helped Idaho and ICL in many ways. I look forward to introducing him.”

The event will begin at 6 p.m., Sept. 21, at the Hayden Lake Country Club. Ticket prices are $60 per person. The evening includes a catered dinner and a no-host bar.
