Lake City sweeps Coeur d'Alene

COEUR d’ALENE — With a little bit of team defense, as well as aggressive serves, the Lake City Timberwolves remained unbeaten on the season.

Ashley Kaufman had 12 kills and two aces, Klaire Mitchell seven kills and 41 assists for the host Timberwolves in a 25-15, 25-21, 25-16 5A Inland Empire League win against the Coeur d’Alene Vikings on Tuesday night.

“Overall, we had some good ball control tonight,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “We’ve been working on our team defense, and that played a part in the win. We’ve been working on moving our hitters around, and that was really successful. Our big strength tonight was that we served aggressive and that put them out of their system a bit and took them out of their offense.”

Ashley Reyes had 14 digs, Chloe Knudson 11 digs and Kaitlin Hunter three blocks for Lake City (11-0, 3-0 5A IEL), which hosts Lakeland next Tuesday.

Kelly Horning had 10 kills, Elly Schraeder five kills and four blocks, Sam Swayze seven digs and Taylin Rowley 13 assists, seven digs and two aces for Coeur d’Alene (5-5, 0-2), which visits Central Valley next Tuesday.

Post Falls splits in

POST FALLS — Allison Munday had 14 kills, six aces and 15 digs for the Trojans in a 31-33, 25-18, 25-14, 25-16 nonleague win over the Moscow Bears at The Arena.

Kayla Mayo had 26 assists, Tessa Sarff four blocks, Macky Morris 14 digs and Ali Carpenter 12 digs for Post Falls against Moscow.

Earlier, Munday had 16 kills, four blocks and five aces for the Trojans in a 25-18, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-12 loss to Gonzaga Prep.

Mayo had 22 assists, Courtney Finney 18 assists, Sarff four blocks, Megan Wood four blocks and Macky Morris 25 digs for Post Falls against Gonzaga Prep.

Post Falls (10-3) resumes 5A Inland Empire League play at Lewiston on Thursday.

Lakeland

wins twice

RATHDRUM — The host Hawks swept St. Maries 25-14, 25-11, 25-16 and Reardan 25-13, 25-12, 25-15.

Against St. Maries, Brooke Mayberry had 27 assists and three aces for Lakeland. Mattisyn Cope added 16 kills and eight digs, Katy Ryan and Jenny Wirtz three blocks.

Against Reardan, Mayberry had 18 assists and four aces, Cope 15 kills and four aces, Ryan seven blocks, Lauryn Cooper six digs.

Lakeland (8-11) travels to Sandpoint on Thursday for a 4A Inland Empire League match.

St. Maries plays host to Timberlake on Thursday.

KELLOGG — Megan Mackinney had five kills and two aces for the visiting Panthers, who won the first game before falling to the Wildcats 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-13 in the Intermountain League opener.

Hannah Burt had three aces, Chloe Turnbull two for Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-2), which plays host to Bonners Ferry on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School.

“They just ended up serving very, very well,” Charter coach Cynthia Beyer said of the Wildcats, “and we weren’t used to it and we didn’t handle it very well.”

Priest River

SPIRIT LAKE — McKeeley Tonkin served nine straight points in the first and third sets to help the Tigers beat the visiting Spartans 25-11, 25-15, 25-9 in the Intermountain League opener.

Kenzie Dean had 11 kills, 10 digs and one ace for Timberlake (5-7). Tonkin added five kills, 12 assists and four aces.

Timberlake travels to St. Maries on Thursday.

Lakeside

PLUMMER — Madison Napierala had 13 kills, eight assists and nine digs as the Warriors beat the Knights 25-17, 25-18, 26-24 in a North Star League match at Ron Miller Court.

“The girls are doing a lot better at making quicker adjustments,” Kootenai coach Mary Gentry said. “We had quite a few unforced errors that we need to eliminate, but our communication and teamwork showed great improvement.”

Brittney Larson had 18 assists, 12 digs and one ace and Courtney Lamb 16 digs for Kootenai (3-2, 1-1 NSL), which competes in the Rosalia Spikefest on Saturday.

Tenley Lambert had five kills and 10 digs and Alyssa SiJohn had 21 assists and two aces for Lakeside (2-6, 0-1), which hosts Mullan on Thursday.

“We’re fighting through some experience issues,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “We’ll play well for few points, but give a few more away due to passing issues. We’re serving pretty well and the percentage is where I want it. At times, we play really good ball. We just need to get that consistency and get our confidence up in what we’re doing instead of what everyone else is doing.”

COEUR d’ALENE — Kaylee Prosch had seven aces and eight assists for the Royals in a 25-16, 25-11, 25-22 win over Covenant Christian of Spokane in the Mountain Christian League opener for both at Holy Family Catholic School.

Sarah Luck had 11 kills and Gabrielle Cavanaugh 11 digs for North Idaho Christian (3-1), which faces Pullman Christian at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake on Thursday.
