Kathryn Jean Short, 73

Kathryn J. Short passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Kathryn was born in Kentucky to Paul and Lillian Beringer on April 28, 1944, the second daughter of four girls.

She attended Shadle Park High School and Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash. She worked as a telephone operator for 10 years and was a wife and homemaker. She loved her family, books and homes. She lived in Hayden Lake and worked constantly on improving her secret garden and her home.

Kathryn is survived by her husband and friend, Ron, for 61 years; son Brandon Short of Elko, Nev.; and daughter Chandra Young of Coeur d’Alene. Other survivors include son-in-law Casey Young; grandsons Chase and Cooper Young; granddaughter Maddison Short; and sisters Sue Sanders of Spokane, Peggy Newlin of Corvallis, Ore., and Ruth Knowles of Hayden, Idaho; sisters-in-law Bernice Nelson and Debbie Short; brothers-in-law Dennis Nelson, Larry Short and Randy Knowles.

The family requests no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, we request a donation in Kathryn’s name be sent to the Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, ID 83835; or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Yates Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, and a reception will follow. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene.
